This year on July 1, 2017 – Celebrating Canada 150th Birthday!
A Parade:
We will be hosting a 150 Celebrate Canada Parade, with participants of over 100 youth groups, with 5,000 individual participants, from all diverse cultures and ethnic groups in full traditional costumes, proudly showcasing a float about their contributions to Canada. Time 10am – 12pm Parade route Church/Bloor down Yonge ending at Dundas Square.
Live Historic figures:
In partnership with Fort York Toronto, 20 young Fort York Solders ( 18 – 22 yr old) will be participating in the parade and then make their way to Yonge Dundas square and demonstrate some historical re-enactment scenes for the public on the main square. We will also have other ‘ re-enactors’ that will be portraying some historical figures such as Sir John A. MacDonald and other ‘ Fathers of Confederation’
Main Stage – Yonge Dundas Square
At 12:00pm, we kick off the festival with the opening ceremonies, with the Mayor of Toronto, which include singing of O’Canada, we then will be cutting the giant Canada Day Flag CAKE, and after that we directly begin with live performances starting off with First Nations groups and then from our multiple Youth groups showcasing their diversity. These multicultural performances will continue throughout the day, with performances of 30 minutes segment shows up to 9:00pm.
Our Annual Living Flag
In partnership with Downtown Yonge BIA, we will be presenting our 3rd annual Living Flag Formation. We invite all of Toronto to come down to YD Square and receive a RED or WHITE T-SHIRT and line up on YD Square to form a “ live” Living Canadian Flag. This is traditionally done every year in Ottawa and Winnipeg, but Winnipeg holds the record of 3,158 participants, but we here in Toronto hope to beat that number with our formation on the YDSquare in our 150th Year Celebration.
